"Q-Drum"

In honor of World Water Day, I thought I’d post a bit about a nifty invention – the Q-Drum.

The Q-Drum is a container which rolls across the ground as it is dragged behind a person. Currently, people in many parts of the world have to carry water from a source to their homes. Typically, the maximum size of these containers is 15 liters, or roughly 33 pounds of water. This requires multiple trips to the water source each day to fulfill a family’s water needs.

The Q-Drum can hold up to 50 liters of water, but since it rolls on the ground, one person can handle the extra weight. This reduces the number of trips to a water source and reduces risk of injury from carrying heavy loads.

It is made of linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), which makes it nearly indestructible. This is important, since the path between a village and a water source is not often a smooth suburban sidewalk. The Q-Drum can handle a wide variety of terrains.

The Q-Drum is a simply technology – basically a hollow wheel with a rope – that can change lives.
