Bluefin tuna numbers are increasing, giving hope to the fisheries that depend on them.\u00a0 Since the trend of the numbers is uncertain – will the tuna continue increasing in numbers, or is this just a population blip? – the World Wildlife Fund is encouraging decision makers to keep tuna fishing quotas where they are.<\/p>\n

Tuna stocks decreased precipitously in the last decade of the twentieth century.\u00a0 With management, the numbers seem to have stabilized and might be climbing.<\/p>\n

In November, the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tuna will meet in Morocco to decide on quotas for fisheries.<\/p>\n

Rome, Italy – WWF welcomes the first positive signs of stock increase in the East Atlantic and Mediterranean bluefin tuna stock revealed in the recent scientific assessment by the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) which \u2013if confirmed- would mean a turning point\u2026<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
