Sharks listed as endangered species are on the menu in U.S. restaurants.\u00a0 DNA testing by Stony Brook University’s Institute for Ocean Conservation Science in New York verified that many different species of shark end up in shark fin soup<\/a>, most threatened or endangered.<\/p>\n

Researchers collected samples of shark fin soup from restaurants in fourteen cities across the United States.\u00a0 They found thirty-three different species of shark in the soups, including endangered scalloped hammerhead sharks.\u00a0 More than 70 million sharks are killed annually, largely for their fins, which can fetch up to $100 per kilogram.<\/p>\n
