{"id":6203,"date":"2011-09-12T08:56:20","date_gmt":"2011-09-12T16:56:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blitransfer.wpengine.com\/?p=6203"},"modified":"2017-06-21T14:20:52","modified_gmt":"2017-06-21T19:20:52","slug":"1-million-or-clean-water-for-the-world-which-would-you-choose","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bluelivingideas.com\/2011\/09\/12\/1-million-or-clean-water-for-the-world-which-would-you-choose\/","title":{"rendered":"$1 Million or Clean Water for the World:  Which Would You Choose?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GIMdUbiCMhQ?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><br \/>\nIt&#8217;s good to know that Americans still have a sense of altruism, as a recent poll revealed. \u00a0When asked which they would choose, 35 percent of those polled responded they would choose clean water for the world over one million dollars. \u00a0Other environmental emergencies did not fare so well and the margin was not that great, but at least greed did not prevail.<\/p>\n<p>The poll was part of a national campaign called\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wastingwaterisweird.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Wasting Water is Weird<\/a>. \u00a0<\/em>The idea behind it is that Americans don&#8217;t need simple awareness on the issue, but they need to change the way they feel about wasting water. \u00a0\u201cThis campaign is designed to make people think \u2013 or better yet, to cringe when they find themselves wasting water.\u201d \u00a0I cringe when I see recycling in a trash can, or maybe the cringing is from knowing I have to stick my hand in the garbage to remove it.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><em><\/em>Other results of the poll:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The survey asked Americans: \u201cIf you could only choose one of these, would you rather\u2026\u201d and then gave a list of choices. The results:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>35 percent chose \u201censure the entire world has clean water.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>28 percent selected \u201cbe given $1 million.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>17 percent picked \u201csingle-handedly stop global warming.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>11 percent chose \u201csave the world\u2019s rainforests.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>9 percent selected \u201csave the world\u2019s endangered species.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Polls with questions like these are sort of silly, as they have no basis for reality. \u00a0They are for fun and do reflect priorities and public opinion to some degree, but neither option is really a choice an individual citizen can make.<\/p>\n<p>This campaign has the backing of the EPA, as well as big players in the industry. \u00a0Will it change American&#8217;s water use habits? \u00a0I don&#8217;t know. \u00a0It&#8217;s kind of weird.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s good to know that Americans still have a sense of altruism, as a recent poll revealed.
