The EPA announced Friday it would be dropping a lawsuit against Range Resources. Range Resources has been accused by Parker County, Texas homeowners of polluting their well water with hydraulic fracturing, also known as fracking.
Homeowners claim the water in their wells was fine before fracking started in their area and that now the water is undrinkable. The EPA agreed at first, but has now backed down from the lawsuit filed against Range. The lawsuit would have required Range to fix any wells found to be polluting groundwater.
The EPA will continue to study the fracking process. They’re expected to finalize rules on emissions from fracking and other natural gas drilling soon.
