Less than 1% of the fresh water of the world’s fresh water is available for human consumption – even less of that is clean enough to drink. There is roughly 326 million trillion gallons of water on the earth, but only 2.5% of that is fresh water. Of the fresh water, only 1% is really available for people to use.
This infographic compares the amount of clean water available in various regions around the world – from a low of 57% of the population of sub-Saharan Africa having access to clean water, to 100% of people in industrialized nations with access to clean water.
