Tonight is Earth Hour, the annual event where millions of people turn the lights off for one hour.
On the last Saturday of every March at 8:30 p.m., everyone is encouraged to turn off the lights in their homes and businesses for one hour. (Leaving safety lights on is still within the spirit of the event.)
Earth Hour originally began in 2007 in Sydney, Australia, but spread quickly to other countries. Now more than 130 countries participate.
Many people continue with “Beyond Earth Hour” and pledge ways to continue reducing their impact on the earth. This video, produced by the founders of Earth Hour WWF, tells more about the event.
