Scientists at Italy’s Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna have developed a robotic arm designed to mimic an octopus’ tentacle.
The robotic octopus arm is made from silicone and soft rubber. Sensors in the arm respond to pressure and can wrap around and manipulate objects in the water.
The plan is that an eight-armed robotic octopus will be used to rescue people in underwater environments. Doctors have also suggested that the remotely controlled robotic octopus arm could be used in surgeries.
