Water agencies and treatment facilities in California recently added 3.8 megawatts of electricity from SunPower Systems. The four new solar systems are expected to save an estimated $4.3 million over the next twenty years.

Electricity generated from solar power is expected to offset 95% of the electricity cost at Rancho California Water District’s headquarters, 55% at the Senga Doherty Pump Station, and 90% each at the Castaic Lake Water Agency’s Rio Vista Water Treatment Plant and the City of Galt’s Wastewater Treatment Plant.

A large part of the cost of municipal water is the electricity needed to run the pumps and treatment facilities. Rate payers will be glad for the millions of dollars saved through solar power.
