In this video from Maker Faire Bay Area 2011, the folks at Greywater Action talk about how you can use greywater in your home to rely less on the water grid, or even to disconnect entirely.
The system that she demonstrates here is a simple way to divert greywater from your clothes washer to irrigate your garden. She says that the materials cost around $100, and you can save over 20,000 gallons of water each year! Check it:

I think that the video does a great job of explaining the difference between greywater (like from your shower) from black water (like from the toilet). Greywater gets a bad rep sometimes, because folks think that it contains sewage, and this isn’t true at all. Even if you’re not ready to commit to a greywater system in your home, you can do something as simple as collecting your shower water in a bucket to reduce your water use through greywater usage.
What ways have you guys found to reuse greywater around your homes?
