If you’re like me, the occasional soda can be a great treat. But there are so many disturbing things about the beverage industry, from reckless water usage to high-fructose corn syrup. This week I discovered a new product that does something about the ingredients: Zevia. The name is similar to the natural sweetener Stevia for good reason- Zevia is the first line of natural sodas sweetened with stevia in the world.
Launched in 2007, Zevia has slowly grown their market-share to become the #1 selling natural soda according to Spins, the Nielson ratings of the natural products industry. They have a range of flavors, including regular Cola, Diet Cola, Root Beer, Twist (lemon-lime), Orange, Black Cherry, Ginger Ale, and Dr. Zevia. All of their sodas are made with all-natural ingredients, from stevia to erythritol- even though that sounds like medicine for a sinus infection, it’s a natural sugar alcohol found in fruits and vegetables that has no effect on blood sugar levels and doesn’t promote tooth decay. Read about the rest of their ingredients here.
In looking at the chatter around Zevia across the Internet, I noticed that it has fostered a loyal and rabid following from its fans, which is always a good sign. And they’ve got the social media thing down to boot- find them on twitter, facebook, or read founder Derek’s blog posts.
It’s encouraging to find a way to enjoy that soda treat in an all natural form- to find out where Zevia is sold, check out their Store Locator http://www.zevia.com/stores/locator/ .
