The West, with it's admittedly poorer education quite possibly have glazed over any number of really great scientific achievements and some truly astonishing ideas have been bought out "For Military Purposes", or by "Big Oil" to prevent lucrative market collapse. Remember the goals of rampaging capitalism are not moral ones, or scientific ones either! The nonsense in the U.S.A. is no rule to measure anybodies achievements by, as most Americans haven't even graduated high school. In a world where China has more post graduate students with IQ's of 130+ than America has high school students, the chances of anything remarkable coming from the U.S. are slim to none, and any opinions they express must be considered from whence they came before being taken for cash. Another good point to consi8der is that although China has more English speaking people than the U.S., the U.S. has few people who speak Chinese - Asia has epoched the Western world, many times over, and they must get used to it, good, bad, or otherwise! If the Japanese say they can run a car on water, they can, even if Yankee Doodle doesn't like it !

Of course this had to be a hoax! The energy required to split the water into useable hydrogen and oxygen would be exactly equal to the energy produced by hydrogen combining with oxygen. But even that's only in theory with zero energy leakage which doesn't happen in the real world; meaning the energy to split the water is more than is delivered by burning the resulting hydrogen. The only way it could work is if there were some form of external factory making the hydrogen powered with clean energy. Even then, there are huge safety obstacles to be overcome handling hydrogen gas!
