The Federal government recently announced $116.9 million in water and environmental project loans and grants through The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. Water infrastructure investment is a critical part of any domestic recovery and reinvestment initiative coming out of the government, and this water investment represents just a fraction of the over $2 billion water and environmental project loans and grants distributed so far by the government.

50 Coastal Projects Funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

On June 30, 2009, Commerce Secretary Gary Locke announced that 50 coastal restoration projects will be funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. From the Great Lakes in the Midwest to dam removal in the West, $167 million will be invested in marine and coastal habitat restoration. When complete, 8,900 acres will have benefited from the Recovery Act.  The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will be overseeing the projects.

EPA Announces $236 Million in Recovery Act Funds for Water Infrastructure in Michigan

New York Gets $430 Million From EPA For Wastewater Infrastructure

The EPA has awarded the single largest grant in their history to New York State for wastewater infrastructure projects: $430 million. The funding comes from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, and will finance municipal and county governments and wastewater utilities for projects to protect ponds, lakes, and streams in New York communities.
