Part of the Allegheny River turned purple Wednesday morning after a chemical was accidentally released into the river.
The chemical is used to remove iron and manganese from drinking water. It turned the Allegheny River purple after Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority employees disposed of the chemical in a sewer.
Officials say the chemical is non-toxic and quickly diluted in the river.
