The Elwha River runs through Olympic National Park. Removing the Elwha and Glines Canyon dams will promote new fisheries and tourism for the area.
The video is about two minutes and is timelapsed, starting from 14 September 2011 and going through October 25. I’m a little nervous for the construction crew. It looks like a dangerous job. But nothing goes wrong.
There’s still quite a bit of work to do. Once the dam is completely down, vegetation restoration can begin. Much of that will happen naturally, but some of it will need to be done by people to prevent erosion of the bare lake bottom.
